Partying with Krewe du Jieux

I found the car—eventually.

It sounds like an evocative first line for a short story and I may use it someday.  The reality is more banal.  I went to the Krewe de Vieux parade and the Krewe du Jieux after party, left at midnight and could not find the car.  I had noted the address that I was parked in front of—even though the street sign was down.  I had noted the peculiar intersection of three streets.  I had followed the same street back—but no car.  In fact, the entire intersection was not there.  I was presented with a typical quadrangle grid.  Sigh!   I might as well have marched in the parade, as L.J. offered, because I was limping by the time I found the car.

Don’t imagine by these words that I didn’t enjoy myself.  I even got asked to dance.  I warned the guy that I couldn’t dance, but he insisted.  I think that I managed to stay off his toes because he asked me again later. *   The music last night was a loopy mixture of metallic klezmer, jazz, and whatever the D.J. slipped in.  And the Panorama Brass Band played for the Barak Mitzvah, presided over by the newest Rabbi in town---Rabbi Ury.

I took lots of pictures and will probably include a link here when they finish uploading.  I promise not to upload all of them!

* However, he did say that most of the other women refused him.  He was probably twice the age of the college students.
