Challenge 105
Dec. 19th, 2009 07:09 amOk, the prompt was to write a poem using provided words. I thought that it was easy so I started and then dropped it as I got caught up in my “real” job. I came back to it today and found it more difficult that I thought. However, the poem is finished. I picked an African muse instead the usual Greek ones and was pleasantly surprised to find that “moon and sun” have a connection to him.

And here is my poem
For Anansi
Have I neglected you?
Blame the north star
that did not lead me to your door.
Blame the moon
who swore he could not find you.
Blame me
for trusting sky gods
who always turn their backs on unfocused desires.
I did write to you.
Yellow ruled paper
I filled, pierced, and
hung on my winter fig tree.
As I peer out the patio door,
the winds ponder each page;
the rain licks each letter;
the earth swallows each syllable.
My tongue aches
for the taste of next year’s fruit
as I pick up my pen again.
